HDFC Ergo Optima Restore — At a Glance
Optima Restore was the plan that popularised the restore/refill benefit concept in the Indian health insurance market. It introduced automatic sum insured restoration for subsequent hospitalisations — a clause now standard across many plans. The plan remains competitive on price and CSR track record, but its room rent sub-limits and consumables exclusion on lower SI variants make it a mid-tier option rather than a premium plan.
Policy Clause Analysis
Restore Benefit
The defining clause. If the sum insured is depleted by a claim, it is automatically restored once per year for a subsequent hospitalisation from a different illness. The restored amount equals the original sum insured. One restoration per year maximum.
Room Rent
Sub-limits on lower SI variants. This is the plan’s primary limitation relative to Optima Secure:
- Below ₹15 lakh SI: typically 1% of SI per day or a flat cap
- ₹15 lakh and above: room rent sub-limits typically removed
Exceeding the room rent cap triggers proportionate deductions on all associated charges. For metro city policyholders on lower SI variants, this is a significant claim risk.
Consumables
Excluded. Standard IRDAI consumables exclusion applies — no add-on available on Optima Restore.
PED Waiting Period
3 years — IRDAI maximum.
Co-Payment
None.
NCB
Reduces rather than resets after a claim — same structure as Optima Secure.
